A Virtual School!

The past few weeks have been difficult, but teachers at IGS: Durham have risen to the challenge.  We set out to emphasise three things:

  • Frequent contact

  • Focused learning

  • A Family-friendly approach

Literally hundreds of WhatsApp messages move between teachers and parents every week, and personalised emails from teachers help to make sure that children’s learning is appropriate and challenging whilst allowing parents the flexibility to organise their own family time.

We are in some ways still working on ways to make this even better, but thanks to the great efforts of staff (together with the patience and doggedness of parents!) we seem to have made a really good job of it so far.

This is what some of our parents have said:

“We are THRILLED by the work the school is sending. So much so I wish I was back in the classroom myself”

“Feedback on teaching is that it is excellent, of high quality and more than enough”

“… the contact and level of support from Mrs Roberts-Lilley has been superb”

“We have been really impressed with all the work the school is doing for helping parents teach from home. Mrs Roberts-Lilley has been amazing. I have a pre-reception child and a Year One child - the work sent for them has been excellent. Also, the way we get Monday’s teaching on Sunday evening is great, as then we get the rest of the week’s work on Monday evening (at least most of it, and I like getting an idea of what the rest of the days would look like)”

“We have been extremely impressed with the work and support provided by IGS, especially in comparison to (sibling’s) current school”

Hopefully, we can all get back to school on 1st June (more information to follow on that, as the government keeps a watchful eye on the data).
